INTERVIEW WITH
EVERY MOTHERS NIGHTMARE
By: Scott Redeker
So who are the members of Every Mothers Nightmare?
Rick Ruhl--singer, Troy Fleming--bass, Kris "Newt" Beavers--drums, Travis Hall--guitar,
Jeff Caughron--guitar
Is this with the original band members? If not, why are they
not a part of the cd?
let Mark go after 2nd CD--Jim had a baby and alot of other stuff going on--Steve
left because of 5 yrs of touring and recording interfeared with personal life.
What has everyone been up to since the last cd?
Writing and playing! Alot of people think we broke up but, we've been playing
and writing the whole time.
Is Every Mothers Nightmare officially back together or is this
just to record a cd?
We never broke up! We've been playing, writing and recording the whole time!
Are there any tour plans?
YES! Planning to hit as many cities as we can this coming year. Already working
on new CD!
How would you describe the sound of the new cd? Is there a
change from the first two cds?
Much deeper!!! The new songs are all of true life. We've been through alot of
shit in the last couple of years and we wrote about it all.
How long did it take to record the cd?
A couple of months. I (Rick R) got real sick during the recording and it took
awhile for me to get better.
Where was the cd recorded?
Southern Sound Studios---Knoxville, TN
Were these all new songs or were some of them written in the
past?
Most are new but, songs like "pray" and "sympathy" just kept coming back up
as good songs so they made it but, we've recorded about 100 more songs and they'll
be turning up somewhere soon.
How did you get hooked up with Perris Records?
A friend told Troy that Tom was trying to get in touch with us and were really
glad we got to meet someone like Tom who's in this for the music and not all
the red tape bullshit. He just wants to get it out there!
Why did Every Mothers Nightmare stop playing in the first place?
We've never stopped! We've been together this whole time.
Any chance of live cd or video?
YES! Were working on a live CD and video. It will be awhile!
How many copies did each of the first two cds sell?
I don't know! The first CD sold over 375,000 copies in our first 4 or 5 months
of touring. Put it this way....the checks were good! The 2nd started out at
about 175,000 when we went out on the road but, we never kept up with sales
because...if it
sold, it sold. If it didn't, it didn't. We didn't want record sales to
ruin our lives because it's like this...we were song writers for richer or poorer,
better or worst. That's what were into!
Is there anything you would have done differently in your music
career if you could do it over?
Yes! not listening to a over rated A&R man who never played a fuckin'
note and telling me (Rick R) what's going to be a hit when he don't have
a fuckin' clue of where a song comes from or what it's all about.
How do you think people will react to a new Every Mothers Nightmare
cd?
We hope good! But you need to dig deep into the song and see what all is going
on and hear what's being said.
What was the biggest show you have ever played?
The second time we headlined livestock.....55,000 screaming fuckers standing
out in the rain with me (Rick R)
Who was your favorite group to tour with?
Cheap Trick,Circus of Power, Jackyl, TSOL
Are there any groups you have played shows with that did not
work out at all?
YES! Can't remember the cheap fucks but, it was a festival--about six bands,
and the band going on second to last had there gear set up all around the side
of the stage where you were supposed to bring gear on in the short fuckin way
and the
stage was about 10-feet high and they wouldn't move and let us on stage and
wanted us to go through the front crowd and load on front of the stage. This
would have been impossible so we told them to go ahead and play Rock-Star and
we bailed and took the crowd back to our hotel and the party began....that's
a whole new story.
What are your favorite cds to come out in 2000?
Godsmack, UPO, any chaines, The wallflowers, any crowes, Limp Bizkit,Disturbed,
Full Devil Jacket, Lenny Kravitz....there are probably more but, this should
cover it.
Check out the new song Delta Voodoo.
