ERIK TURNER INTERVIEW
By: Scott Redeker
What have you been up to lately?
I'm working on a Joey Allen / Erik Turner CD,Managing a female
solo artist & doing some free lance computer work.
How is the art selling?
I haven't sold anything in about a month. It's a hobbie that
pays for itself.
Is there a place other than the internet that you sell the art?
Not yet.
Is there one thing the inspires your art? It seems that they
are all totally different.
Some times I won't paint anything for three months, Then I'll
paint two in two weeks. ??
Do you take care of your own web site?
My cousin, Christian Blair put together and maintains my website.(
Cblair@pacbell.net )
Do think the internet has helped bands promote their groups
and new cds more easily?
I think it has and it will a lot more in the future.
It is cheaper than an ad in a magazine and also gets to some
people instantly.
True.
Why were GIRL, FARAWAY EYES, and HONEY used on both DEMOS FOR
DIEHARDS and HOLLYWOOD UNDERGROUND?
Because I wrote those songs and I wanted them on my CD.
What is the difference (besides the songs) of DEMOS FOR DIEHARDS
and HOLLYWOOD UNDERGROUND?
Hollywood Underground was a project I did With Jerry Dixon
and friends. This my own project.
How did the project DEMOS FOR DIEHARDS come about?
I had the idea fo the underground CD and I had the idea for
this CD. Fans always asking for unrealsed music of any kind. The rarer the better
as far as collectors are concerned.
What about HOLLYWOOD UNDERGROUND?
The fans wanting more music. How were the people chosen that
play on the cds? I thought Kelly Keagy was the perfect choice for Best I Can.
-- We recorded it at his studio. We asked him to play the drums and he did.
Will any of the songs be played live with people that played
on the cd?
I doubt that will ever happen , but you never know?
Since Jesse Harte appears on both cds. Is there any chance of
forming a band with him? That would be an incredible group.
I'm planning to ask him to sing a song on my new project that
I'm doing with Joey.
Are you still one of the owners of Malibu Juice & Coffee?
No.
How did the business do?
That business didn't do as well as we hoped.
Did your customers recognize you as a member of Warrant?
A few did.
In the July issue of Metal Edge there is a story on COAL CHAMBER
written by Paul Gargano. Can you comment on a few lines from the article We
always say that we don't have fans, we have friends. We hang out, you can always
catch us at the bar after the show. We're not like these reclusive rock star
idiots. I think thats the attraction, we're all just down to earth and don't
want to be big rock stars, we just want to make a little bit of money and a
little bit of good music for people. The frontman explains of his bands success.
You know what it is? Remember in the late '80s, all those f*ckin hair bands
that used to do the big stage, a lot of pyro, limos? You know what? It wasn't
reality. It wasn't their real music and their real f*ckin feelings. You take
a band like Korn, or a band like us, and your getting real emotion and real,
heartfelt, down to earth things.
. Sounds like most musicians that have a record deal, we are
cooler than everybody else man, he's his biggest fan syndrome defecit disorder
type of thing.Wake up!! Bands have been hanging at the bar for 50 years !! Thats
where you meet your girl for the night!
Is there an official lineup of Warrant yet? Will you be taking
part in it?
?? Good question.
Was it hard to watch Warrant go out on tour and you weren't
there?
A little bit. I needed a break for a lot of different reasons.
I look forward to doing something with the band in the future.
Did you keep in touch with them while they were out?
Sometimes.
Will there be a new cd with the original members of warrant?
Thats what I want to happen. Its up in the air.
There has also been talk of an acoustic cd and a cd of unreleased
older songs. Any idea if those cds are really going to come out?
Maybe some day.
Any chance of the rare Gazarri's show from 1987 that was video
taped being re-released?
people sell it on the net.
Was it a big change to play arenas on one tour and then play
clubs a few years later. Unlike alot of groups Warrant shows seem to have even
more energy in a smaller club.
Its great to go back and play clubs when you have a choice.
Which is the most underrated Warrant cd to you?
Dog eat Dog I didn't think Dog Eat Dog got the attention it
deserved.
Some people have complained about the sound change from Dog
Eat Dog to ultraphobic to Belly To Belly. If you could do it differently, would
you?
Thats what we were into at the time.
Was everybody involved with the change in sound?
yes
Which was your favorite group you toured with?
Can't pick 1
Who would you have liked to tour with?
A lot of groups.
What are your plans for the future?
Its wide open.
How has your health been lately?
O.K.
Are you a sports fan? If so, who are your favorite teams?
49r's Rule thee earth !
Will there be another cd like Demos For Diehards?

Who is doing the vocals on each of the songs?
Bump - Jesse Hart - Jani Lane - Adam Shore - Christian Blair.
